AABEA NT Activity Plans for
2005-2006
In
2005, AABEA NT with its fresh entity has taken initiatives for
executing some of the valuable ideas emerged from the community.
Among too many great ideas discussed we have selected few that can be
implemented with a realistic measure using a good execution team.
Implementation of these projects somehow benefits our local
community, and of course, our dearest country Bangladesh. We plan to
work on implementing the following projects in 2005-2006 time frame:
-
Higher Education
Assistance Program
-
Job Assistance
Network
-
AABEA NT Web Portal
-
Bangladesh
Technology Convention
-
Technology Area
Specific Seminars
Higher
Education Assistance Program
This program is
primarily to assist Bangladeshi scholars studying in North Texas
institutions. Under this program, AABEA NT will maintain a fund to
offer scholarships to selected Bangladeshi students time to time.
Students desperately in need of financial assistance or other
educational supports get priority. As a first time approach in Fall 2005, we
have awarded scholarships of $600.00
equally distributed to two Ph D students at UT Arlington. With favorable response from
our
community, we also plan to extend this program for students studying
in Bangladesh in the future.
Job
Assistance Network
This network is to unite
technology professionals to help find jobs for Bangladeshi people in
North Texas. Through this network, AABEA NT members will
try their best to setup possible interviews between a candidate and
a hiring manager.
In 2005, out of about dozen interviews set up through AABEA NT
network, four candidates received job offers. We are continuously
routing candidates' resumes via AABEA NT email groups as needed. In
the near future, we plan to maintain a resume data bank where candidates can post
their resume. Also, with access control, hiring managers can pullout
resumes for screening as needed.
AABEA
NT Web
Portal
With a very limited
budget, we
already have launched this preliminary website for AABEA North Texas
Chapter. Currently, this website is at its early stage. In the
future, we plan to extend this website to make a valuable web portal
that will facilitate Bangladeshi professionals
in North Texas when they need information related to specific
research, jobs, academics, etc.
Technology Convention
The Technology Convention project will mainly focus on
providing marketing opportunities to Bangladeshi IT companies who
want to market their products and services into the US. We plan to
invite Bangladeshi IT companies with the aid of BIBC and Bangladesh
Commerce Ministry who can subsidies the export opportunity costs for
participants. We also plan to invite top-level executives (VPs and
above) from North Texas high tech companies who can make buying
decisions for possible outsourcing, etc. In this two day event,
Bangladeshi IT companies will exhibit their products and services to
our invited guests and visitors. AABEA NT will facilitate the
bridging for any possible business establishment between the
Bangladeshi IT companies and North Texas IT companies. The idea is
that if at least one North Texas IT Company agrees to outsource some
works to Bangladesh, there will be some export earnings as well as
new jobs created in Bangladesh.
Seminars
We organize technology area specific short seminars and
networking events in every 2 to 3 months throughout the year. In
these events, usually a group of 20-30 engineers and industry
professionals gather to listen to the speaker and share valuable
opinions and ideas associated to the seminar topic. These seminars
are designed to be short seminars with a maximum duration of two
hours. Normally, we try to serve lunch or refreshments to all
attendees.
